MS Society volunteer wins Community Action Award
MS Society volunteer Cathy Topping was one of 16 recipients of the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration’s 2009 Community Action Awards.

Cathy Topping of St. Thomas was recognized for being a champion for the rights of the disabled in Elgin County, and across Ontario.

The Hon. Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and the Hon. David Onley, Lt. Governor present Cathy Topping with a Community Action Award December 1st at Queen’s Park in Toronto.

In addition to her volunteer work for the MS Society as an MS Ambassador, former OSAC chair, and the MS Society representative on the Accessible Built Environment Standards Development Committee, Cathy helped lead the development of the “Thumbs Up” sticker program for busnesses in St. Thomas whose facilities are accessible and safe for individuals with mobility problems.

Since 1987, the Community Action Awards have honoured individuals who, through their leadership and commitment, have been instrumental in creating positive change for Ontarians with disabilities.  The awards are presented by the Lieutenant Governor on behalf of the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
