Thanks to research advances, multiple sclerosis is a treatable disease. Therapies can reduce the frequency and severity of MS attacks and slow the development of disability.
Unfortunately, these drugs and others that treat MS symptoms are often expensive, and newer drugs may not be made available through provincial drug programs or may have very restricted access.
Often, receiving the best treatment depends on where you live and if you have employer-paid drug benefits.
The MS Society advocates for important changes that will make a difference to all Canadians with MS:
At the provincial government level – provide access to all Health Canada-approved MS therapies.
At the federal government level – establish nation-wide access standards for drugs needed to treat multiple sclerosis.
